Active Local Pages is an ASP (Active Server Pages) and CGI engine and several additional tools (Viewer with extended DHTML, Installer, Huge pack of components).
With ALP desktop applications can be written in ASP/CGI and deployed to any Windows PC beginning with Windows 95 (with IE4 or later). With some limitations to the used external components also autorun CD can be built in ASP/CGI with ALP.
ALP is applicable for any application where request/response schema will fit. This include DB applications, many utilities, catalogs, albums etc.
Combining the simple and powerful ASP/CGI technology with DTHML (+ window and context menus controlled by the pages) allows nice looking and functional software to be developed with little efforts.
ALP is almost fully compatible with MS Internet Information Server and often the applications can be executed on the stand-alone desktops (with ALP) and on WEB servers (under IIS) with no changes or minimal changes if certain specifics of the particular platform are used.
The ALP run-time library can be installed on server machines so the applications built initially for ALP can gain access to the same components on the WEB server machine.
The latest additions to the run-time library include threads, system functions, version and shell functions. This extends the applicability of the ASP programming further - to even long asynchronous tasks, install/update operations, administration etc.
